RE: Wage and Pension Package Update

On behalf of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, I want you to know that we are listening to your concerns. We know that this must be a confusing time for many county employees, especially those nearing retirement age. Many peple have called regarding the benefits included in the recent pension package and a significant number of employees have inquired with the Department of Human Resources about changes that could affect their retirement plans.

We value your knowledge, experience and commitment to public service. Please rest assured that our goal is to act in a fair, expedient and responsible manner in order to protect your intererst in the County pension fund.

The Board is concerned that there are many rumors and much misinformation circulating about decisions affecting your future. Please be assured that we will keep you informed of actions that are considered by the Board. Because of legal inquiries that are still pending, we do not plan on taking action on any measures that affect the pension or benefits packages at the January 24th County Board meeting.

The County Board has hired the law firm of Whyte, Hirschboeck and Dudek to provide legal counsel on this matter. Any measures considered by the Board will be thoroughly debated with accurate and timely information provided to you.

We are asking for you to carefully monitor our actions and deliberations, wait with us for the legal opinion and keep us informed of your concerns. Meanwhile, this County Board wants to express its appreciation for your continued work and dedication in providing public service on behalf of Milwaukee County residents.

Respectfully,
Karen M. Ordinans, Chairman
