Let's Hear It for Experience!
Sixteen individuals who have 415 years of community service.

     Think about that!
     It's a notable collection of experience, the sort of experience whose value is often overlooked in the nonprofit sector, a devotion to causes and individuals that extends far back in time and speaks well for our future.
     It was finally honored March 23. That's when Local 1954 threw a special Saturday luncheon at the Old Country Buffet on W. Brown Deer Rd. to honor its members who had given 20 plus years of service. Peers in the Rehabilitation and Social Service Workers Local, District Council 48, presented plaques to the 16 honorees for demonstrating such a steady commitment to the communities they serve.
     The agencies they serve include United Way, Legal Action of Wisconsin, Catholic Health Charities of Wisconsin, and the Milwaukee Center for Independence. You've met some of the honorees before in AFSCME 48 pages because their longevity is only the surface of their activity and many have been active in union and community charities outside their service to clients.
     One, Dave Czarnecki of MCFI, was a recent Community Profile because of his continued work with the disabled in sheltered workshops. But Czarneck, with 23 years of service, is a mere strapling next to a fellow workshop leader at their South Side facility. Paul Krueger of MCFI has been a worker at MCFI or its previous social agencies for 36 years!
