ATTORNEY PROFILES

Mark Sweet
    Mark Sweet practices primarily in the areas of labor and employment law on behalf of unions and employees. He received his B.A., with honors, from the university of Wisconsin-Madison in 1990 and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1994. During law school, Mr. Sweet served as Staff Member and Managing Editor of the Minnesota Law Review.
    A trial attorney with the National Labor Relations Board in New Orleans, Louisiana, from 1994-1996, Mark has experience litigating both unfair labor practice and representation cases. Prior to opening his own law firm in 2001, Mark worked for the law firms of Shneidman Myers (Milwaukee) and Robein, Urann & Lurye (Louisiana). Mark has lectured to unions throughout the Southeast and the Midwest regarding the duty of fair representation, organizing strategies, steward training, and NLRB practice and procedure. Mark also represents unions before the Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission, and has represented individuals entitled to relief under the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, Family Medical Leave Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Fair Housing Act.
    Mr. Sweet is licensed to practice before the Wisconsin Supreme Court, the Louisiana Supreme Court, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and various federal district courts. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Wisconsin State Chapter of the Industrial Relations Research Association, the Lawyers Coordinating Committee of the AFL-CIO, the Milwaukee Workers Rights Board, the American Bar Association, the Wisconsin Bar Association, and the Milwaukee Bar Association.

Gene Holt
    Mr. Holt received his J.D. with honors from Marquette University Law School in 2003. Gene’s prior experience in the labor movement includes seven years of service as Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, and Financial Secretary of a 2,000 member local Union in Milwaukee, as well as thirteen years of service with another local union as organizer and business representative. In these capacities, Gene has handled a wide array of contract administration issues, as well as engaging employers in traditional and interest-based contract negotiations.
    During law school, Gene worked as a legal intern at both the EEOC and the NLRB. He also spent nearly two years as a law clerk for a union attorney in Milwaukee. Mr. Holt is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin and is admitted to practice before the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Stephen Sweet
Mr. Sweet received his B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1963 in Political Science. He received his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1965. Between 1965 and 1999, Sweet served as a trial attorney, supervisory attorney, and Regional Attorney of the Milwaukee Regional Office of the National Labor Relations Board. In announcing the appointment of Sweet as Regional Attorney in 1997, the General Counsel of the NLRB, Fred Feinstein, stated, "Steve Sweet has served the agency in a highly capable manner throughout his career. He has acquired a well deserved reputation as an outstanding attorney and supervisor and brings to this important position a wealth of legal and managerial experience."
    A native of Madison, Wisconsin, Mr. Sweet has also served as an adjunct professor of advanced labor law at the University of Wisconsin. In addition, he has been a frequent lecturer to attorneys and law students regarding NLRB procedure and case law. Mr. Sweet is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin and is admitted to practice before the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Craig Miller
    Mr. Miller received his B.A. degree in Latin American Studies from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He received his J.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1969, and participated as a VISTA Volunteer upon graduation. After representing adults and juveniles in the Wisconsin correctional system through the VISTA program, he practiced as an attorney at the National Juvenile Law Center in St. Louis, Missouri. There, he represented juveniles throughout the country in various law reform and class action cases and assisted in writing part of a major treatise on Juvenile Law.
    Since returning to Wisconsin, Mr. Miller has been engaged in a variety of practices, including Corrections Legal Services (representing inmates in civil cases as well as cases against the State Division of Corrections), the State Public Defender (handling criminal appeals and probation and parole revocations), the Milwaukee Law Center (Wisconsin’s first low-cost, high-volume flat fee law firm), and his own general practice private law firm.
    Mr. Miller recently received an award from the Milwaukee Yong Lawyer’s Association and Legal Action of Wisconsin as the Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney of the year, in recognition of the many family law cases he has accepted for clients who cannot afford the usual cost of legal services. He is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin and the Collaborative Family Law Council of Wisconsin, and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Eastern and Western District Courts of Wisconsin, and the Northern District of Mississippi.

Charles Stansberry
    Mr. Stansberry graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in June 1965 with a major in History, and a minor in Political Science. Subsequently, Mr. Stansberry attended Marquette University Law School graduating in May 1969. Initial work experience was in insurance defense work for Employer’s Insurance of Wausau, Milwaukee branch, for two and a half years. Thereafter, Mr. Stansberry was employed by the home office of Time Insurance Company (now Fortis Insurance Company), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from 1971-1979, rising to Assistant General Counsel. Thereafter, TiCo Title Insurance Company hired him as Milwaukee legal counsel for Milwaukee County handling title legal problems. In May 1983, Mr. Stansberry and his current partner, Craig E. Miller, founded Miller & Stansberry, S.C, a general practice law firm.
    Mr. Stansberry has been engaged in the general practice of law for twenty-two plus years with an emphasis in civil litigation, including personal injury; social security disability claims; criminal law; and criminal appeals work; and bankruptcy. Mr. Stansberry is licensed as a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, and as a practicing attorney in the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
