Who Can Join Sub-Chapter 36?
The official name is: Milwaukee County, Wisconsin Public Employee Retiree Sub-Chapter 36 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO. Sub-Chapter 36 is administered by a nine-member Executive Board that is elected by the membership.
All retired persons who were members of AFSCME or would have been eligible to be members of AFSCME and the spouses of such persons who, while actively employed were employees of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, are eligible for membership.
Membership. Membership meetings are held during the months of September through June. No meetings are held in July or August.
Meetings start at 10:00 a.m. in the downstairs hall of D.C. 48, located at the Southeast corner of N. 35th and W. St. Paul Ave. Before each meeting, we serve donuts and coffee. In December and June, we have a hot luncheon with beverages, free of charge.
At our meetings we try to have a guest speaker with an interesting topic to discuss. Otherwise, we have discussions about issues pertaining to our Good & Welfare. The meetings usually last an hour.
Goals. Our goals are to continue to educate members on our benefits, as they seem to be changing all the time. We are politically active, and from time to time we have politicians speak at the meeting.
We also belong to the “People’s Organization” (Public Employee’s Organized to Promote Legislative Equality), which is the political arm of AFSCME.
Dues for Sub-Chapter 36. Application for membership shall be made on a standard Sub-Chapter 36 Application Form which can be downloaded from this site or write to the treasurer listed below. Your application must include your check for the current annual dues in the amount of $15.00. Make checks payable to Retiree Sub-Chapter 36 and mail the application and check to: Butch Skare, Treasurer, 2430 South St. Clair Street, Milwaukee, WI 53207.
