Information About MRA Chapter 48 AFSCME Activities

Spring/Fall Membership Meetings at:
American Serb Hall, 5101 W. Oklahoma Avenue

    2009
    1. Tuesday, October 6th. Please note: No dues will be collected at the door. Your white or blue membership card will be needed to attend and to vote.

    2. Tuesday, March 24th -- 9:30 a.m. Introduction of recently elected Vice President Tom Hayes and new Board member Walter Powers. Tom Hayes reported on a lawsuit decision involving health insurance benefits for certain retirees and that the MRA has asked the national AFSCME Retiree Association to investigate whether the City is paying the required 25% toward health insurance premiums for retirees 65 years of age and older. Nominations were received for Board election this fall. President Graham announced that dues will no longer be collected at future membership meetings. Mr. B. Jerry Allen, Executive Director, Employee’s Retirement System gave an update on the present value of the system and potential effect on the City’s budget. Luncheon followed.

    1. Tuesday, October 7th -- 9:30 a.m. Election of Board members, update on issues involving retirees, possible speaker, luncheon

    2. Tuesday, March 25th -- 9:30 a.m. Introduction of new President Carol Graham and outline of her goals, report on success of activity of Help-Rem for reduction in pension income taxation, discussion of ongoing activities, committee reports, vote on $3 dues increase to $15 yearly, nomination of Board members, speeches by candidates for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, and luncheon.

    2007
    1. Tuesday, October 7th -- 9:45 a.m. Election of Board members, speech by Mayor Tom Barrett, committee & officer reports, Pension Board report, passed a motion authorizing expenditure of $5,000 to Help-Rem for legislative activity toward a reduction in pension income from taxation, and a vote approving a proposed new constitution.

    2. Tuesday, March 27th -- 10:35 a.m. Nomination of Board members, Affiliation Committee report, Health Committee report, legislative activities, speeches by candidates for the Wisconsin State Supreme Court, luncheon.
