See official minutes regarding a lengthy discussion about pension benefits, the responsibility of the Pension Board and the City. Minor changes for our constitution were accepted by motion. Health matters are being closely watched for upcoming changes. A formal resolution authorizing a Legal Defense Fund and member assessment fee was presented and adopted. Members were encouraged to pay their annual dues on time. All annual dues expire in December. Election nominations were made. There were no opposing candidates, therefore the candidates will officially begin their terms when reported at the October meeting. 1. Tuesday, October 5, 2010. The various committees gave their reports. Kerry Leist, National Benefits Consultants, was the guest speaker. As noted in the Newsletter, a motion was made: "That a $10.00 Legal Defense Fund Assessment Fee be established for the purpose of preliminary legal work which must be undertaken prior to the establishment of a Legal Defense Fund. The balance of assessment fees collected will be used as seed money for the Legal Defense Fund." Motion Passed. 2. Tuesday, March 23, 2010. Status of proposed Constitution sent to Washington and voted on by members. Future elections will be done by mail to all members. Update on City funding policies discussed. Tuesday, March 24, 2009 -- 9:30 a.m. Introduction of recently elected Vice President Tom Hayes and new Board member Walter Powers. Tom Hayes reported on a lawsuit decision involving health insurance benefits for certain retirees and that the MRA has asked the national AFSCME Retiree Association to investigate whether the City is paying the required 25% toward health insurance premiums for retirees 65 years of age and older. Nominations were received for Board election this fall. President Graham announced that dues will no longer be collected at future membership meetings. Mr. B. Jerry Allen, Executive Director, Employee’s Retirement System gave an update on the present value of the system and potential effect on the City’s budget. Luncheon followed.
